USS Missouri grounding incident occurred 17 January 1950 when the
battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) ran aground while sailing out of Chesapeake
Bay. No casualties occurred during the incident; however, the battleship
remained stuck for over two weeks before being freed from the sand. Damage
to the ship incurred from the incident required her to return to port and
reenter dry dock for repairs.
