That's about all the photos, for now. My friend in Germany has been
doing the really hard work of sorting these photos, scanning hundreds
of private photos, authenticating many of them and trying to match up
the "official" ones with the photographer who took them. Turns out
some of these PKK photographers took untold thousands of photos (and
movie film) of the war on the eastern front and my guess is most of
them are either missing, destroyed, sitting in some basement trunk in
Germany or in Russian hands (particularily the photos confiscated from
POWs at the time of capture) Most of the POW photos would have wound
up in the NKVD or GRU archives and it is said there are even some in
Stalin's personal archive.
We still have many hundreds of photos that were not posted but most of
them fall into two categories-photos takens at the funeral, burial or
mass burial of German or Russian military personnel and photos
depicting atrocities on German officers and soldiers-of course there
are none showing atrocities against Russian personnel-not
surprisingly.
The photos showing atrocities against German troops come from an
organization called the Wehrmacht War Crimes Bureau which, believe it
or not, was an actual military/judicial tribunal set up in 1939 by the
German High Command.
That this organization even existed was one of the surprising facts we
dug up.
