I can't shed any light on where this photograph was taken but, during the
First World War, the Russian army reportedly used thousands of camels for
transport - in Poland.
"This animal can keep its footing on the most slippery ground, and travel
with facility over the deepest snow without sinking in to an appreciable
depth...and proved to be very useful throughout the winter".
When necessary, camels were also eaten by the troops but its meat is
described as "coarse, tough and flavourless".
