The newzbin file descriptor system is so important that you have to make it
work. It is an essential shorthand to point you at a post that you want.
You can get them by query at for example, http://www.nzbindex.nl We post
pointers now, more than the actual files.
I think you said you can't download nzb files. Of course you can. Perhaps
they're not registered on your computer to open with your news client. You
must fix that. There are free trials and free news clients that love nzb's,
and will do that automatically on installing.
In my case I'm happy to pay for my own News Rover subscription.
Bottom line: Earlier newsgroups fed us downloads; now they point us to the
SPOTS of other members, anywhere and in any group on Usenet that they're
seen to be on topic. The nzb doesn't care, it just works. It is a
spam-free alternative.
