Most of my stuff is well orginised, now...
But pre 2000, I haven't much of a clue.
All this stuff was retrieved via painfully slow dial up, initially
14400 baud, but after spending a small fortune, buying a
38400 modem, then beaking the bank for a mighty 57600 modem (Pace or
USRobotics were the best IMO).
Retrieved from bulitin boards and FTP sites, found using gopher.
No search engines in those days.
Giving away my age here... :-(
Microsoft/Windows had no TCP/IP stack, so that had to be sourced/paid
for from a third party.
Those were the days!
