Defector Says North Korea Does Not Accept Non-Virgin Female Military Recruits

North Korea does not accept female military recruits if they are not virgins,
disclosed a defector. The country's physical aptitude test for their recruits in
fact puts women through a sexually humiliating process, such as, a "virginity
test," reported The Korea Times.
A former North Korean army officer named Ahn Hey Kyung shared this month on
"Moranbong Club," a talk show on TV Chosun, that men examined the females to
check if they have experienced sexual intercourse. "The examination is to see
whether recruits aged from 17 have had sexual experience," said Ahn. "If their
hymen is no longer there, the state doesn't accept them in the military."
The guest defector from North Korea said that prior to the test, female military
recruits are required to wait in line wearing only their panties. When male
examiners see a recruit trying to cover herself even with her arms, he will
instantly shout at her to leave as she is considered "failed."
The talk show host Kim Sung Joo asked Ahn how one's virginity matters in the
military. The latter replied that the state considers lost virginity as a sign
that the woman is not ready to fight for her country.
