Thank you for your input Karolus. The fact that you still had access in
DE implied it was not just a question of rara.jp blocking all foreign IP
addresses. That made me more curious.
A friend who makes occassional use of a free VPN service helped me make a
few experiments. The result: It seems rara.jp is now blocked at
national level in my country of residence. Attempts at access using
national infrastructure all failed. But when we routed our requests via
a third country (France and UK were the two we tried) we had access.
Since I can't use the free VPN (the software is Android, AppleOS, Win8
only), I made another experiment. I was also able to access rara.jp via
the TOR network. That was a learning experience. The only part of
rara.jp I ever look at is the Phuukhao gravure BBS. I simply like a
preview once in a while of what Phuukhao, Cigarillo and the others are
posting. I'm a little suprised to find I now need to use anti-censorship
tools just to do that.
