One Valiant, WP199, the first production example, was loaned to BSEL as an
engine testbed for the P.1127 (Harrier forerunner) programme - a Pegasus engine
complete with rotating exhausts was mounted in the bomb bay. It wasn't an
entirely representative installation, as the intake was totally unlike the
configuration that would be used on the P.1127, but provided some useful
airborne engine handling experience for the project.
