 Well, with 10,200 Kg of possible mass, I suspect to ensure the
 security of the chutes  (and crew) there is a need to slow it down a
 bit with drogue chutes not to mention pull out and deploy the main
 chutes in a somewhat gentle fashion.  As I recall the Apollo Command
 Module had a maximum mass of about 6,000 Kg.
 
 I thought it was a beautiful deployment and feather like landing, much
 smoother than the Martin-Baker ejection seat experience I went through
 many years ago.  I am not complaining, it saved my life, but it was a
 rough ride.
 
 The simultaneous, flawless inflation of the Dragon's chutes was a site
 to behold.  I suspect that was aided by the very dry air in El Centro.
