My Dad said that all they gave him for the A4 was a blank plastic shield
that was pulled down from the visor on the helmet. Couldn't see a thing,
but was to keep it down until after the blast. There was a feeling in the
squaron that the blast would burn the hell out of the plane so the chance of
survival was next to nothing. The skipper encouraged the pilots not to talk
about it.
