I use Avidemux and have for some time. Free and easy to use for
filtering, cutting, cropping ect.

I also use an old version of FormatFactory to convert whatever format
to avi when I wish to use avidemux to edit a clip.
There was some issue with the newer versions but I can't remember what
it was. If you desire, I can post the version I use for you.
