In general, most folks don't even know the usenet exists and most ISPs
have removed their free access to the usenet to keep massive file
downloading in check (Usenet is much faster than torrents unless the
torrent you want has a lot of feeders).
I think torrents sprang directly from loss of access to the usenet. I
prefer it over torrents because of copyright houses that now send
threats when you download.
