At your suggestion tried HJ Split .... sure took a lot longer with more steps
needed to use command line to start the program
once the GUI loads still takes several clicks to get the file joined
didn't allow me to change the file name
The five simple commands above in second example:
1. checked the veracity of the files
2. Concatenated the files into a name of my choosing
3. Cleaned the old stuff off the HD
4. Converted the file to a cross platform format (mp4)
5. Ported the file to another device.
HJ Split does provide a command line alternative ...
but still it doesn't allow name change
for splitting files *nix provides a command line option

Frank Clarke provided an option for DOS that also
looks quicker than any GUI program. Just get rid of root.000 & root.par2 first.
