Back when I used one I had SpaceMan 99 as in Space Manager. It was a
little funky but fairly powerful. It did a byte by byte comparison of
all files. As you can imagine it took a while but when it said they
were the same you could go to the bank with it. I think it's out
there in shareware. It would show you all instances of the file with
locations and you could delete any or all as you wished. THAT took a
lot of manual decision making if you are at all fussy about things
like date.
I played with another one but I've forgotten the name. It would find
"duplicate" files even if they were modified, cropped, reduced, or
sharpened. As you can imagine it had some erroneous hits where you
wondered how on earth it thought they were the same but it also found
the same pictures in radically different sizes.
