Thank you _very_ much for that offer. I'm reading of more folks being
reported for "abuse" and it makes me mad. As far as I can establish,
music sales have increased since ripping and posting became more
common. I believe the reasons are that others hear music they wouldn't
otherwise hear (thus they become additional purchasers) whilst a
second group buy mp3 disks from the likes of Amazon. Whatever else is
happening, the music industry isn't losing sales overall. <rant mode
off>

Yes, I join you in wishing him the best in life. Maybe 9 or 10 years
ago, I wrote one of his posts to CD for my father, a great lover of
opera. I think it may have been La Boheme, but I'm not sure now. My
Dad heard the first 20 seconds listening intently and then asked me
where on earth the recording had come from. I told him briefly of the
internet and NGs, and how folks posted stuff for others. His flabber
was well and truly gasted! Then it was my turn to be amazed, as he
told me where and when the original recording had been made. It was at
the ROH Covent Garden in (now my memory's struggling) 1938? He had
spent most of a day travelling to London by train for the performance
and then the same in reverse to travel home.
A powerful memory of my childhood years is of evenings with no one in
the family allowed to speak/cough or whatever while my father bobbed
up and down every 2 1/2 minutes or so to change 78s!
Now that he's gone to the Great Opera House in the sky, I have really
come to appreciate opera more and more.
