No, it was always called "Lassie" when originally shown on the network.
After Jeff left the series and was replaced by Timmy, the Jeff seasons
(1-3) were put into syndication under the title "Jeff's Collie," to
distinguish them from the Timmy episodes which were still in first run
on the network.
(I believe the fourth season, when Jeff transitioned to Timmy and Cloris
Leachman was the mother, wasn't syndicated.)
Then, when Timmy left the series and Lassie became the ranger's dog, the
Timmy years were syndicated as "Timmy and Lassie" to distinguish them
from "Jeff's Collie" (still in syndication) and the new "Lassie"
episodes (still on the network).
Seasons 11 through 17 were on the network. CBS canceled the show and
the final two seasons were first run in syndication. Those last nine
seasons were always just called "Lassie" in syndication, and "Jeff's
Collie" and "Timmy and Lassie" were still available under those names.
So, in first run, it was one 19-season show called "Lassie," but it was
broken up into three separate series for syndication.
