For most of my life I didn't think I enjoyed Romance movies. War movies, yes. Comedies, yes. Mysteries, yes. Science Fiction, yes. Action movies, yes. But Romamce, no.
Then someone asked me what my all-time favourite movie is. My answer flowed easily: Casablanca (1942). Then I started thinking: What type of movie is Casablanca? "Drama" is too often used as a catch-all category. It's not a War movie, which is one of the genres IMDb lists. No fighting. No strategy. It's obviously a Romance.
Another one of my all-time favourite movies I mentioned is Gone with the Wind (1939). It's not a History movie, albeit some historical elements are no doubt accurate. Although a war affects the circumstances of the characters and environment, it's not a War movie. It's obviously a Romance.
There are other movies I enjoyed which perhaps had elements of other genres. Sabrina (1954) for example (which I posted 08 Aug 2019 GMT). And how about Titanic (1997)?
Then I found there were movies I enjoyed, such as this one, where the Romance genre is even more clear-cut. So the Romance catgory was created. The list isn't as long as some other of my "Favorite" categories, but there are some pretty powerful movies in the category. I just hope the word "Romance" doesn't turn too many people off and keep them from checking out the move.
