I have been at this for three weeks now. An internal 1TB drive just
decided to get sick. I start up from my second internal drive and the
first one does mount. However, everything is verrrryyyy slow with that
drive. Double clicking a folder will take nearly a minute to open. I am
transferring files to an external 2 TB drive. Everything about it works
normally, so the problem is isolated. Transferring a 100 MB file can
take 30 minutes. And then there is the dreaded 'error -36' message. This
has to do with permissions and I've used 3 different disk utilities to
correct it. Every time I've done it, all utilities tell me that
permissions were repaired, but doesn't help. When I get the 'error -36'
message, the file cannot be copied. So I dump it into a 'bad files'
folder for later processing. I can open 'bad files' on my laptop over my
network and watch, edit, and save, so that will be another project when
I am finished. It wouldn't be so bad if the speed was normal or if there
was a way to force copy these 'bad' files. I have over 144,000 folders
on the drive and manually copying each one is nerve racking. By the way,
I am using a Mac. (I can hear it now. LOL) Any ideas?
