Set against the backdrop of events that stirred the immortal works of James
Fennimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans," Sign of the Otter recounts one
wilderness family's adventures and encounters with the American Indians, the
English, and French in frontier America.
Colonel Rose, leader of the American rebel forces, teaches Samuel Todd how to
co-exist in a hostile environment, the film shows American history unfolding
at its rugged best.
Sweeping vistas of rural America unfold as Samuel Todd accepts the help of a
friendly native Intian chief, Tekhane, in their pursuit of the ruthless
British commander, Major Smythe, who has captured Todd's young son, James.
Scaling the walls of historic Fort Niagra, Todd and his Indian friend manage
to save the boy in a daring rescue, and then, with the British and their
Mohawk Indian allies in hot pursuit, flee back to the American forces,
culminating in a battle finale that captures the grand scale of these excit-
ing and colorful times.
