14-year-old computer genius Rudy Gatewick falls heir to leadership of the
high-tech conglomerate, Zenda, Inc. when his father suddenly dies. This is
particularly bad news for Rudy's scheming uncle, Michael Gatewick, who immed-
iately starts plotting to take over the company. Ready to stop at nothing,
the unscrupulous Michael promptly hires three thugs to kidnap Rudy in order
to manipulate events at the crucial upcoming stockholders' meeting.
Meanwhile, Professor Wooley and Colonel Zapf, Zenda executives and Rudy's
protectors, are forced to keep the abduction under wraps in order to safe-
guard the boy's life. While hosting a Zenda-sponsored baseball league play-
off, they make an astonishing discovery. A young batter, Oliver Gillis, is a
dead ringer for the missing Rudy. In an attempt to buy time before the
stockholders' meeting, they plead with Oliver to take Rudy's place.
Reluctant to desert his team just before an important game, Oliver is
ultimately persuaded by the promise of a job for his unemployed father.
While the real Rudy is wandering through the forest with with his comically
inept and hopelessly lost captors, Oliver takes on the challenge of assuming
his double's role at school and at the corporation. His classmates, unaware
of the deception, are pleasantly surprised to see the formerly shy, quiet
"Rudy" suddenly stand up to his bullying cousin, Douglas. Particularly
impressed is Douglas' pretty girlfriend, Fiona, who begins to see "Rudy" in
a whole new light.
Unfortunately, things are a little more tricky at the Zenda Corporation.
Oliver is anything but a computer whiz, and finds himself in way over his
head. With time running out before the shareholders' meeting and the champ-
ionship baseball game, there's still no sign of Rudy. Oliver desperately
tries to figure out how he can be in two places at once...

Our friend Diffy (whom I haven't heard from in ages, btw, and really miss),
contributed a DVD-rip of this movie to The Boy Scouts Blog, way back in the
Used-to-Was. I never watched it (shocker!), but the title and the DVD cover
front have always stuck in my mind. Well, while cruising on eBay one night,
I just happened to stumble upon a copy for a ridiculously low price, so I
bought it to share with y'all :)
Here are most of Diffy's original words that accompanied that post:
This movie stars Jonathan Jackson, who plays a dual role. That
little fact is what makes the movie sort of funny. One person is
a computer geek and the other is a jock and he is able to play
both equally well. Here is how it all started. A teen computer
wiz, Rudy Gatewick, who works for his father's computer company
as a programmer, is kidnapped after his father's death by his
uncle Michael Gatewick, who is also an executive at the company.
Seems that Gatewick Sr. left a controlling number of shares to
his 14-year-old son, Rudy, with instructions that he and his
father's mentor, Professor Wooley, be named co-CEO's to run the
enterprise. To say that Michael is not happy about the
stipulations in his brother's will is an understatement. He knows
that if young Rudy makes a presentation of his new operating
system at the stockholders' meeting, they will confirm him as one
of the CEO's of the company. Michael says to one of his cronies
"What am I supposed to do? Be happy working for a 14-year-old?
What shall I say? 'Excuse me sir, I think you dropped your Power
Rangers wristwatch.'" That part is just hysterical...
The people that Michael hires to carry out his dirty deed are
idiots to say the least. I guess the Star Trek residual checks
were late the month he signed on for this role. He is a complete
clown in this movie, unless of course he was supposed to be a
clown, in which case he was brilliant. LOL!
After the key company folks realize Rudy is missing, they panic.
Then at a baseball game they are sponsoring, they see Oliver Gillis
(also played by Jonathan Jackson), who is a dead ringer for Rudy,
so they make him a proposition to be a body double for the missing
kid, just to buy them some time to figure out what is happening.
The story has many twists from there. All the while, Oliver Gillis
has a life he left behind to take part in this little charade. His
baseball team is in the playoffs and they need him.
While he masquerades as Rudy, people start to see Rudy in a new
way. The new Rudy is much cooler and doesn't take a lot of the
bullying like the real Rudy did. Perhaps his double can change
his reputation a little. He is terrified of actually having to
make a presentation at the stockholders' meeting because he doesn't
know a thing about computers.
This movie is not entirely without some heartwarming moral merit as
well. It is wholesome entertainment for the whole family, if for
no other reason than to marvel at the evolution in the career of
William Shatner.
