This is some info I posted about 6 months ago. I have not recently
checked the links. I have used this technique successfully on several
movies.
ADDING SUBTITLES TO A DVD FROM SRT FILE.
To add srt subtitles to a DVD it is necessary to:
1. Convert the srt to a sup file (srt subtitles are text while sup
subtitles are bitmapped images)
2. Demux the DVD files into the video and audio tracks as well as a
sup file for each subtitle track and some sort of index file for menu
and chapter information.
3. Remux all the files including the newly created sup file
4. Update the DVD movie ifo file.
Separate freeware programs programs will do all this but have
previously involved many steps.
One of these, Subtitle Creator, now has a DVD authoring wizard
included, which greatly simplifies matters.
SubtitleCreator will convert srt into sup, you just input your srt
file and the ifo file of the main movie on your dvd (VTS_0*_0 where *
is the most common number in the file list ie the main movie) and then
click on save sup.
You the open the DVD authoring wizard in the tools menu. The first
time you use it you input, where the other 2 programs (PgcDemux and
Muxman) are (links below). You input your newly created sup file and
it does the rest very efficiently. It adds the new subtitles without
rewriting the movie files.
If the subtitles color, sixe or position is not to your they can be
easily corrected and adjusted by another small program DVDsubedit if
necessary.
