Some of it is not worth downloading but SPAM it IS NOT. You are right to assume
it's to get round copyright take downs. Easynews and others have started to
decode the obfuscated headers for you. Hence gobbledigook in the groups and
plain english in some search engines.
There's still a lot of good stuff bieng posted but you have to hunt a little
harder to find it.
