In reply to "pondboy" ..........
Well, advice as to avoiding errors can go on forever :)
The advice is only good if your methods of dealing with audiobooks actually
matches the methods of the advisor, which must be rare.
I have done a fair amount of posting over the years and the experience
has taught me to look out for the common (and less common) ways that
an audiobook can get screwed up.
1. I check that the numbers in the nfo file check out against the files
you have, ie size, length, bitrate etc correspond to the actual files
2. Check that the book starts right and ends right, ending especially
as this is a very common place to find an error.
3. In checking the start and end the quality is automatically checked.
I often run rapidly through part of an audio file visually using mp3directcut
so that you can see the audio. Any change in the pattern often means a fault.
And thats all I do for audiobooks that already conform to the size, shape,
bitrate etc that I use.
Some books need changing to my "style" and these come under slightly greater
scrutiny in passing. Some books which have been posted as one file for example
need splitting up and these get a detailed examination merely because each
part of the file gets examined in the process.
Of course, some books will slip through and get reposted without you actually
listening to them and then you have to rely on reports from downloaders.
Microsoft have been using this method for years :) As long as you can fix the
errors then all is OK. After all you are spending the time and trouble to post
and they are getting a book for free. Most folk appreciate that and it is very
rare that you will get any sort of abuse.
