Having read the other responses, I realize that I have nothing new to say,
except...... :)
I use a Sansa clip, I have three !, all with various SD card extensions in them.
I have one crammed with ALL my music tracks - quite a few thousand of them.
My everyday one has a 16GB SD card and carries only about 20 audiobooks
(Probable capacity of 1 or 2 hundred books). That's because its so easy to get
new books onto it and I forget which I have read if there's more of them. I also
use it for my best music and for my most useful PC utilities - of all kinds, ie
a portable PC repair/install/backup kit, its hardly any bigger than a USB stick.
And it gets radio stations ! You beginning to see why I like it :), if it only
took photos..... :)
Bookmarking - I've never used bookmarking and I'm a smidge over 21, well a
factor or two maybe. The Sansa remembers where I'm up to on the one book I am
listening to so I suppose that is bookmarking and I only listen to one book at a
time.
The Sansa is 2" by 1.25", has a clip (which I have removed to make it thinner)
to clip to pockets or clothing. The screen is only good for menu items being 1"
by 0.5" or thereabouts. No speakers so earphones only. If you ever consider a
Sansa then get the Rockbox software (operating system) to replace the native OS.
Free on t'internet.
I have an iPod touch which I never get round to using but it does everything a
smartphone does except phone/msg. Apps by the bucketful and there are ways of
almost ignoring Apple and some stuff is ok anyway. Its a lot bigger and heavier
than the Sansa.
I have an unsmart phone (like you ?)which I switch on occasionally to warm the
battery. I bought my wife a Cubot phone for less than $100 and second hand
phones are cheap as chips, even free if you have young relatives who swap their
phones every time a new model comes out :) Phones are really good computers and
easily play audio and run ebooks too, simultaneously with audiobooks - a sort of
bookmarking if you get interrupted :) Oh yeah, reading an ebook at the same time
as listening on earphones gets you left alone. Just listening often gets
interpreted as doing nothing and you (I) have to switch off to answer folk.
I have a friend who I rely on for all of my tech answers, you may know him - his
name is Mr Google. :) he is good for background info before risking real cash.
Ah well, thats a hell of a way of saying nothing :) but you can't go far wrong
really especially if you try the free/cheap options first.
