None of the additional infos (ICQ, AIM, etc) during the registration are
mandatory. The only thing you need nowadays is an invitation key and there
are several ways to acquire one. It's not that hard to get in. You can
always drop by the chat, read the topic and then ask for an invitation, or
you can got to http://reddit.com/r/usenetinvites and ask for one there. Or
you can just send that email to Chev and have him invite you.
The registration is invite only, so people actually have to do something
for it. That weeds out the users that only want to grab stuff and are in
no way willing to contribute to the forum.
