English, we all take it for granted but it is an amazing and complex
story.WE took the best of every invaders language and incorporated it
into our everyday speech. Even The Battle of Hastings only added many
French words (mostly food) but never became popular with the
Anglo-Saxons working folk. Just the Norman aristocracy, and within 50
years they became "English Speakers" too.

Why has English become the worldwide  common language for business,
science, even classic literature ?  it's ability to embrace wonderful
new exotic foreign words without changing it's primary
Celtic-Anglo-Saxon  grammatical roots  it's totally unique as far as I
 know.
