Some years back, a group of people on the newsgroup ran some
experiments to determine the "best" sampling rate for audio books.
The final result was 64 kbps sample rate with a 44 Khz filter Momo
sounded good for virtually all books. Tthe other factors addressed
were:
1) No clipping. Clipped audio sounds pretty bad.
2) No audio enhancements. Dynamic range expansion makes audio hard to
listen to. Crank up volume for low passages and get Blasted on loud
ones. Any enhancements which cut the last syllable of a word can make
listening unpleasant.
