The gene pool is intact - the driver and passenger had minor injuries and the
pilot was unhurt.
Nor was it all - or even mainly - the van driver's fault. The accident
report identifies the probable cause of the accident as the "pilot's failure
to maintain clearance from obstacles on the runway approach path".
Contributory factors were:
"the airport management's decision to relocate the runway displaced
threshold, which did not provide an adequate safety margin for approaching
aircraft"
and
"the automobile driver's inadequate lookout for approaching aircraft before
crossing the runway's approach path".
