I seriously love that. I intend to retire to the wine country in a few
years, not another county but the one a few hundred kms up the road. Close
enough to the family but well far from the city I currently live in :)

Guitar Rig is worth a look but it's only good for a single setup, since you
already have the Mackie, well, you have options I've never looked at!

Being a PC'er I've never had the pleasure of the Apogee, I remember reading
about it on Engaget.com and thinking "god damn that's some impressive tech!"

I think you'll be fine. You have the Mackie so you have what, 4 channel
inputs? That to the iMAC, I'm sure the basic Mackie software can play with
the standard channels from there, if it allows plugins then hello Guitar Rig
or something similar. Just a question of the processing from that point,
fingers crossed it's so close to instantaneous you won't notice a delay!
