 BinSearch is your friend.  (www.binsearch.info)

If you know the names of a few, for example, biology books that
you want then search for them using a site like BinSearch.

The search results from Binsearch will tell you the newsgroup(s)
the book is in, after which it will be easy for you to use your
favourite newsreader to browse the group.   Alternate searches
include the author's name or author+title.

For example, search for "George Luger Artificial Intelligence"
shows that book in a.b.e-book and a.b.e-book.technical.   Thus if
I wanted to find more books on AI those groups would be logical
 places to check.

Topic searches on BinSearch might also work for you.   For
example, searching for "Artificial Intelligence epub" returned no
hits for me but searching for "Artificial Intelligence pdf" found
 a couple dozen.
