Gonna walk that back.
First things first: the DVD plays just fine as a DVD, meaning
all the menu choices work as expected.
Second, all the horrors I described happened when I did what
I usually do to make a back-up AVI from a DVD. For instance,
using Womble to convert the VOB set to a single MPEG-2 (which
incidentally threw the audio off by more than 10 seconds).
So I went back to the beginning and used dvd2avi to extract
the three audio tracks and create a d2v for frameserving
=> with the DVD in the drive (i.e. without copying the
contents to disk).
The result was a well-behaved video track, three well-
behaved audio tracks, and a trouble-free x3audio AVI.
So my previous comments had less to do with how the DVD
is authored and more to do with the way I work. If you're
downloading it and don't intend to do anything with it but
play it as a DVD, you can probably ignore EVERYTHING
I wrote before.
