Produced in 1992. English. Run time of 1:11:48. DVD size of 4147.222528 MB.
Phoenix Part One runs for 1:06:35. There are 4:33 of scenes from Part Two, Phoenix Rising. With the 40 seconds of end credits you get the total runtime.
This appears to be one of the shorter 70 min versions mentioned below.
This is a Vivid NTSC DVD.

Actually, this version is likely uncut. The 1:43 version is a "Director's Cut" that combines footage from Phoenix 1 and Phoenix 2.
There was a time in the late eighties and early nineties that Paul Thomas would shoot 2 hour plus features and then release them on two VHS tapes to make extra money at the expense of the consumer. Typically, these releases were through Vivid Video or Cal Vista/Metro. Unfortunately, "The Phoenix" suffered this treatment. Thus, "Phoenix 2" wasn't a sequel per say, it was the second half of the movie.
Apparently Thomas did this often enough that he did eventually take some flack for it. In response, he began releasing a VHS "Director's Cut" through a mailorder outfit called VideoMail - not sure if they are still in business.
However, these director's cuts were pretty much BS. Both halves of the 2 hour movie would be combined, but he would edit a lot of footage out too. So, if you wanted to see everything, you would have to, once again, defer to the two tape version.
I have Phoenix and Phoenix 2 on VHS. Both tapes are about 75 minutes. So, the whole film would run about 2:30. The 1:43 "director's cut" is the two halves minus about 45 minutes of footage.
To add to the confusion, Vivid Video had a habit of editng the features down to 70 minutes or so for VHS re-releases on cheaper T-75 blanks. For some reason, many of these shortened versions found their way on to DVD. In some cases, DVD versions were actually edited even further to fit in extra features such as multiple angles.
Aren't you glad you know all of this now?
For what it's worth, I'm a big PT and Vivid fan and have been collecting this material for about 15 years. I've talked extensively with Vivid in the past, so I know all of this information is true and correct.
