lemmie, I've been down the same road with Nero.
I got fed up with the b.s. and just went back to
the basics.
I rip with DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter, or RipItForMe.
All freeware. (usually just Shrink - which WILL allow
for DVD9 and use the others if Shrink has an issue)
I burn with a simple, easy to use freeware program,
vdm_free. All these little programs work like champs
and never give me any crap.
I can post all of these here, if you can't chase 'em
down on the net.
You mentioned avi to DVD. I think vdm_free will do it.
I just haven't messed with it.
