Hello Howl,
It was never my intention to start a Criterion group. It would take a
lot of posters to keep something like this going.
I was just using this group so that I could monitor my own posts, since
I don't like direct posting to monitorable groups that already have
enough main headers.
Bugzzy & I worked 24/7 last Winter to get a.b.dvd.classic.movies off the
ground, but after 6 months I saw that it was taking off, so I stopped
posting there.
(We did too good of a job! We posted too much & recently it was nearing
50,000 main headers! Fortunately, now that the old posts are falling off
Giganews, the header count is decreasing. It has lost about 1000 headers
in the last 10 days.)
An ideal size for a group is 15,000 - 30,000 headers. Beyond that, it
becomes cumbersome and unwieldy.
I spent the next 6 months building a.b.dvd.classics, so that there would
be a place for those posts that didn't fit the charter of
a.b.dvd.classic.movies.
Now even that group has exceeded 15,000 headers, and nothing is falling
off the 'back end' since it won't get to 240 days until the end of the
year.
Normally, I just post to a large parent 'mega-group' and then post an
NFO / NZB pairing to the monitorable groups. That way I leave a smaller
foot-print and don't add any unnecessary clutter.
Having said all that, I am about to post another Criterion set, & I
believe I have one or two more coming up next week. (Keep in mind that
this is just serendipity, and it could be more than a month before I
post again on this group.)
