I really appreciate RIB's comments, and am reading the Wikipedia page
on VPN's for an overview. I'm a little curious about the mention that
PureVPN is Chinese based. I was listening to a podcast from NPR
yesterday that mentioned Apple computer taking away their VPN product
from the Chinese public, because it was forbidden by the government.
Now I see wikipedia saying something similar, "VPNs have been banned
in the People's Republic of China and Russia." I'm not worried about
that, since I dont live in China or Russia, but just curious what it
all means. Honestly, I think I would feel safer having a Chinese
VPN, than one from Microsoft, for example, since Edward Snowden
exposed how pervasive, dishonest, and paranoid the US is in spying on
its own citizens.
All VPN's are not equal, no doubt about that. But also, even the
same VPN may not stay "equal" over time. PureVPN sounds like a very
good deal, and I'm going to get their 2 year plan shortly, since it
takes one to know one. I have to get one before I'll really
understand how it works and become fluent in the technology.
Thanks RIB! You helped me once before, recommending HandBrake, saying
there would be a learning curve. Didnt seem to be much of one, and it
is a favorite tool now. (I do have difficulty getting subtitles to
behave.)
