I never knew a much about VPNs either. I actually started using it
before I even used Torrents. I have an extreme aversion to giant data
gathering entities and what they do with that data. So what I can do
to hide my footprint I will do it. I'll look into the VPNs you
mentioned. I still prefer using usenet whenever possible and resist
torrents unless It's something I really want and can't find here.
