Right, but keep in mind these posts are not intended to hoodwink the
group regulars, who are obviously wise to this sort of thing. Not even
the newbies, really.
They're intended to mess with the NZB users who might be looking for
warez software. Unlike a regular, who sees a mess of these uploads,
off-topic, in the group, many warez searchers won't be downloading
250,000 headers in the group to see what warez software might be here,
just populating it via the nzb with (what he thinks) is a piece of
warez software (think of these jugheads who upload the alphabet soup
filenames, trying to avoid the DCMA thugs. Their stuff is loaded,
off-topic, from pillar to post.)
So, instead of seeing twenty groups of software, five or six titles in
each grouping, all nearly the same size...an obvious tipoff to group
regulars... he just sees his single file, and figures its legit, only
to get the shaft when he tries to install it.
A nuisance, to be sure, but that's the logic behind these virus
"software" posts showing up from time to time.
