Clearly, I "jumped the gun"... I took your lack of a quick response
to an imagined negative reaction to my comments about the liberality
of the 1960's.... it's a long story, and not your problem, but my
life has been crazy weird with both extreme good luck and bad luck.
The past 20 years have been more and more negative and isolating. I
am basically a hermit at this point with no family, friends, or
friendly neighbors, so hard to keep a level perspective at this point.
Yet I still have a heart full of hope that won't give up and know I
have great talents and understandings, if only I can keep my head
above the waters and rebuild my life, re-invent myself somehow. I am
a miniature sculptor and philosopher. I want to write books and make
art before I drop dead from stress... I have been keeping myself
happy by mindless hard labor, relandscaping my yard, etc..
As for the usenet, I love it too much, but have been trying to divorce
myself from it for a long time... but it's like a kid trying not to
eat candy when I have a free, unlimited source. About 3 years ago,
when I was downloading tons of stuff from this group, I had a very
fast internet connection and downloads were quick, so I got two
unlimited usenet accounts and had 2 computers downloading
documentaries 24 hours a day 7 days a week, because my fast connection
was part of an introductory deal that was about to expire. I was
going to cancel my ISP when that happened, since the price would more
than double. When that time came, the ISP wanted to keep my business,
so they let me keep the same price, but greatly reduced the speed.
However, I still decided to cancel the 2 usenet services since I had
downloaded everything I could imagine wanting. Anyhow, they goofed,
they cancelled the billing on both accounts, but left one of the
accounts active. I emailed them and told them this, and they replied
that it had been cancelled, so I figured, okay, I told them and they
didn't believe me, so now I have an unlimited account with no bills. I
didnt do much with it since this group was not so active after JCmru
departed. Then I discovered the xvid group, and ... yada yada yada, 3
years have passed and now I have not only a gazillion documentaries
yet to watch, I also have bazilliions of new films, vintage films,
Beatles memorabilia, and more, but at my age, it is crazy to keep
building up more stuff than I'll ever watch... and frankly, the vast
majority of stuff I do watch is disappointing and feels like I am
wasting my time... I watched about half of "Roma" recently, and just
got bored... perhaps it gets better, but everything takes time and my
time is not unlimited, sadly. Time is of the essence, and I need to
get off the internet, except for email and business needs. So I'll
keep my ISP, but want to quit using the usenet.
You and Rib once talked about communicating on a back channel somehow.
I am not seeking to find you out, and dont care to bother you, but if
you can tell me how to reach you, without exposing yourself, I would
be happy to give you the name and password to this usenet account.
Since I'm saying this in a public forum, I suppose someone else could
pretend to be you... so maybe this isn't practical.. but the offer is
open, if you want it.
There's a lot I'd love to write about, about life and reality, if only
I can figure out how to make my viewpoint understandable. So far, my
view are so different, both right-leaning and left-leaning folks can't
stand to hear my ideas because both sides think I'm on the other side.
Thus, to date, nobody is on my side, which is almost a definition of
being crazy, except that I have always been a seeker after the truth,
and truth is always and only a matter of real evidence and the facts,
so I know I'm not crazy, because I can still prove it to myself, but I
find myself in a world of folks who believe "truth" is on their side,
and both sides think this, and refuse to hear anything they dont agree
with... so I have quite an uphill battle... in short, not that this
will make sense, but I am an atheist who follows the real way of
Jesus, which is to reverence truth and hate falsehood. Jesus was
right about reverence for truth being the "way"... Jesus's problem
was that he was a creationist, who believed Adam and Eve were real
people, the true ancestors of all humans. So he was dead wrong, and
all versions of christianity are not only shameful, they are all
bollocks. The left-leaning liberal renditions are the most evil,
because they mix science with falsehood, and close their eyes to the
incompatibilities, which infuriates the right-leaning fundamentalist
christians who think science is bollocks and creationism is the truth
from god... thus both sides are crazy delusional and bigoted for
their version of "truth" and the whole human race is self-destructing,
in my opinion. The muslims and jews are split in the same way, hating
each other behind their bigoted opinions of God...
what more can i say... i have said too much, i suppose... ;-)
