Equally unfortunately, Servers are having to "dumb down" so that bad
posting arrives. Otherwise nothing would.

Yes, yEnc is a bugbear for this group as many insist on posting using
buggered versions of PowerPost.
There are problems with packing the post as well.
There are many reasons why posts fall over.

The "gurus" all left the group. Quite possibly screaming into the

Those that "knew" got peeved with those determined to destroy this
group with bad posting. "I will post how I want and stuff you" is a
common attitude.
They took their knowledge and they disappeared.

There are two formats to post, LMM. You are using Uuencode.
There are groups where yEnc is preferred. This is mainly because the
posts are HUGE. yEnc creates a smaller post.
Why it was not "supported" in this group, is that the posts are not
usually big enough to warrant this format.
Those using it,that think it is the "Second Coming", have no idea what
they are talking about in relation to the posting needs of this group.
Why yEnc causes/caused so much angst with newbies is that Outlook
Express does not understand it. And newbies are very fond of using
their email program to read newsgroups.
It's for email, not for newsgroups.
They don't understand why they can't see half of what is being posted.
They may see the "thank you's", but they can't see the post.
Outlook Express can be tweaked to "see" yEnc, but why not just use the
Tools that are posted?
Everything that is needed to get started in this group is packed in
those Tools.
Reading is the only requirement.
There is a glitch where you may have to have Winrar first to unpack
the Tools, but that can be overcome.
LMM, the winrar picture you are posting is only a part of what it
takes to post. The fact that you have turned off Agent's ability to
split the post tells me you are not really understanding what you do,
so that when you change something you can see what you did and put it
back by yourself.
Ladies, you learnt how to use a complicated computerised sewing
machine, or you wouldn't be in here downloading the designs for it.
I know learning Usenet is not as much fun as sewing. But if you want
your sewing experience to be even more fun, you have to learn how to
get what you want out of this group.
For that, you have to read and understand how Usenet works.
The Tools will help you with that.
I'm sorry. That is how it is. That is how anyone who learns to post
without being flamed had to learn. On any group on Usenet, not just in
here.
Believe me, you would be flamed off the planet if you posted badly in
a big group that posts music or movies.
No amount of "you're mean to me" is gonna make you understand those
Tools if you won't sit down and nut through the bits that don't mean
anything to you at the moment.
We aren't born knowing computers, and Mr Gates keeps changing them so
we have to keep updating our skills.
The good part about posting is, once you can do it, that's it. I
haven't had to learn any new posting skills once I learnt to split
rars and split the post.
I have had to learn why posts are bad, simply so I can "try" and
explain to people who don't want to read the Tools.
And believe me, you lot have learned some really interesting ways to
stuff up posting...../grin

That is the reason why you are splitting the rar.
The setting of Agent to split the post AGAIN is just as important.
An example of why to do this is this.
You know that 733 part Dakota post from weeks back??
I FINALLY got that YESTERDAY...... yeah.... just yesterday.
It was corrupted on 3 servers. And two of those servers were premium.
It was "rejected" on those servers.
The servers just looked at it and thought "junk" and turfed parts of
it.
IF that rar had been split and the rars posted individually, I could
have retrieved that on a number of servers. As the pieces would have
joined up on my harddrive as I saved them into a folder.
This would have saved me days and days of useless downloading.
What this means is, the odds of retrieving 733 CONSECUTIVE "clean"
parts is slim.
Very slim.
By breaking up the rar as well, and posting those parts, the post
would have been retrieved by a lot more people.
AND!! And!! That post was in .dst format.
It unpacked to 968 MEG.

That's almost a gig of your harddrive, Ladies.
The CH4 folder was 15.7meg in .dst format.
It converted to 6.28meg in .hus format. Less than a half. And that is
jut one folder.
Ladies - do the math and tell me your computer is not running like a
sloth.
Those filing all their files in .pes format are storing files 4 times
larger than .hus. Why not just keep the ones you are using in .pes?
And don't try and tell me you sewed all those thousands of files in
this short space of time??
I understand you may use .pes format. Storing your backups in .pes
format must take you hours.
Hands up those who back up their harddrive??

The reason? Because no one wants to "learn". They think they are too
busy to learn.

The Posting Tools are as basic as could be made.

See my writing? Line size is the number of lines of text. If I posted
a post and only wrote enough words to make one line, then my line size
would display as "1" (most likely).
When you post a huge post, it is broken into "code" and the "code"
takes up lines -

I don't know what more to do to help you Ladies.
It's like you don't want help.
I can't reach in to each and every one of your computers and change
your settings for you. Everyone's computer is different.
It won't help you understand what you are doing.
Most of you would be Mothers. Your first child didn't come with a hand
book, but you didn't just throw your hands in the air and say it was
all too hard... ok.... mebbe some of you did.....
I don't know how to help when all anyone sees are designs and run off
in a mad daze chasing them.
As a group, you don't care how you post them and you don't care how
you get them, as long as you get them.
I'm thinking a lot of you aren't getting them without a lot of hassle.
It doesn't have to be this way.
I don't know what else to do without sounding like a broken record.
The "I can post no matter how bad it is" posters are too loud.
If people really want help, real help, get the Tools and start helping
yourself.
