Where did you ever get THAT idea?
For example, here's a commonly posted link:
http://www.annthegran.com/FreeDesigns.aspx
You can certainly post links here - particularly to file sharing sites
such as rapidshare, sendspace, etc. Posting a link certainly makes
more sense than attaching material that's readily available on a website.
The potential problems, however are:
If the material posted is pirated, posting the link here advertises
the fact, and the owners can and do have the material deleted from the
file sharing site.
Further, when you UPload to such a site, the site has a record of your
IP address, and you can then be traced.
So yes, you can certainly post links here and in other newsgroups, and
it's often done (particularly non-binaries groups). But like
everything else, some caution is advisable.
