 Take it back to the dealer.  Ask them to either (1) show you what
 you're doing wrong or (2) give you a different machine to try, one
 that does nice embroidery.
 
 I kept my Viking Rose, as well as my 1+ when I purchased a new
 Designer 1.  I love the Viking machines.
