Left side or right side?  OH .. SIZE ;)

It all depends. First, what tools do you have? The best is probably a
full version of Acrobat. The menu item Advanced/PDF Optimizer has a
multitude of options. I'm not familiar with other programs.

What are you willing to give up? For example, images can be compressed
as much or as little as you want, much like jpg's. But the more
they're compressed, the worse they look. So how important are they?
Unfortunately, the same settings apply to the entire pdf.

There's a page of 'discard' options; most of the items there probably
aren't in the pdf to begin with.

A miniscule amount of space can be saved if you un-embed common fonts
like Arial or Times, because they will be substituted clearly; but
don't un-embed fonts whose exact appearance is important to the document.

All of the options take some playing with to see how they affect your
final document. Every document is different.

You might also try googling for
 reduce pdf size
Most of the hits I looked at also point to Acrobat, with some
additional hints. There may be some hidden gems there, too.
