The solution is has been posted, I post it again, below
my response to Geen.

Geen,
This is not a correct statement.
The archive is posted _incorrectly_.
THAT is the problem.
What you use to gather the archive today will not
work on the next "corrupt archive" posted next week or
next month or when ever, you will have to download
another tool.
Where will you end up?
With a plethora of programs loaded to all machines so
as to unpack anything???
Is that even a halfway ideal way to manage a newsgroup
read?
There is a relatively simple solution.
EDUCATE the poster to post correctly.
However...
As this poster (havefun) has demonstrated they are as
"thick as a brick", and/or trolling, the education
option is not available.
Therefore in that situation the following solution
works for whatever yEnc mess a n00b posts.
And, for the record..??.. I know you know this whole
Wilcom post is a troll. What I find interesting is you
are feeding it.
I thought you had changed your ways ... in 2010??
cheers

yEnc32 is a free Third Party application that decodes
yEnc posts in a
very user friendly way.
Install yENC by running the downloaded file from the
yENC page for your system.
Say yes to "associate with Windows Explorer" when
asked.
Doing this allows you to have the options of decoding
and encoding in yENC from
a Right Click Menu,, after you have highlighted the
saved text file/archive.
In your NewsReader:
1. Download all the parts to the post
2. Highlight the parts
3. Go to:
File>SAveMessagesAs
-------------------------------
Leave all the default settings in that screen as is.
Enter a filename and *make sure* you know the PATH to
that file.
Note: On some platforms you may need to add the
extension [.txt] to the attachment.
Also IF you are using a browser the "Save AS" function
may be different to that
described here. Regardless, you still have to save the
download as one text file.
EG: ../UseNEt_Downloads/<myYencDownload.txt>
--------------------------------
4. Start yEnc.
--------------------------------
Highlight the text file and a right click select shows
the Encode/decode options for
yENC in the dialog box.
Anything else you will need to navigate to the file
location in the yENC program.
---------------------------------
5. Select "decode"
---------------------------------
yENC will notify success or failure or any errors.
---------------------------------
That is the method I still use today for a number of
binary retrieval
tools on both NIX and Windows platforms - right from
the time
yEnc encoding first appeared. The method works very
well and
has a number of subtle advantages over the automated
functions
of popular news reading software.
Agent, Xnews, NewsBin, Grabit..etc etc.

Comment:
It is a fact that the default setting for modern
posting tools is yEnc.
Therefore any newbie posting is possibly always going
to be uploading in
yEnc not knowing their ignorance may well force others
to "go
backwards" in order to get a working retrieval from the
mess posted.
