But I digress and I agree with those who feel that a country shouldn't
have it's national policies dictated by an unelected bunch of
foreigners. As to what might've happened in the election if 16 year
olds had been allowed to vote, it's probably for the best that there
were not. I don't know about teenagers in the UK, but if they're as
unenlightened as many of our college kids in the US, they could've
ended up voting to put you under the leadership of Iran.
When interviewed from time to time, we find college juniors and
seniors who have no idea who the Vice President of the US is. No idea
at all. Don't know what his name is. We've had college students asked
who the speaker of the House was, and they replied "which house?" (the
question referred to the House of Representatives, one of two branches
of our Congress). I suppose if the interviewer had followed up with
"the House of Frankenstein", the kids would've considered it legit.
We've even had college students "polled" that if Hillary Clinton were
elected, she was considering enacting Sharia Law in her first term of
office, asking the students' opinion. Many replied that they didn't
know what Sharia Law was, but they were Democrats and felt that if
Hillary advocated it, it would probably be a good idea. And all this
coming from supposed adults in their 20's. And many of them women, no
less.
In our next election later this year, the 18 year olds who will be
voting are too young to even remember the World Trade Center attack of
2001. I shudder to think what would happen to our nation if the even
more poorly informed 16 year olds were given the vote. I'd think that
the notion of giving 16 year olds a voice in an issue like Brexit
would've been a horror unimaginable among your populace. Scotland's
position on that age inclusion, notwithstanding.
