Present, My captain! (salutes) - or are we a democracy here?
The hints dropped have been so strong, though, that it's almost
certain LEA are already watching this group - not to mention SMERSH!
So if we are to post anything sensitive or at all hardish, we MUST
give due attention to security/anonymity.
With that in mind, does anyone have any hints on operating TorCap2
with a newsreader?
In the 32-bit past, I always used SocksCap32 with Tor and watched for
the comforting profile on the "Bandwidth usage" graph that assured me
my news-posting traffic was, in fact, being routed through Tor.
On moving to a Windows 7 PC, I was disappointed to find no 64-bit
equivalent. The nearest is TorCap. But while with SocksCap I could
just drag the Forte Agent icon across and drop it in the SocksCap
window, Torcap requires me to enter "application name" and "host name"
parameters.
I tried experimenting with my browser *.exe in the "application name"
slot and particular sites in "host name" - which is the sort of thing
I understood is required - and my connection is not being anonymised.
ShieldsUp at grc.com still sees the identifier thoughtfully shouted
out to all and sundry by my local ISP.
So what should I enter into that TorCap window to make my Agent
connection go through Tor and to get that comforting "bandwidth usage"
profile again? Anyone help?
I am not wedded to Windows, BTW; for me open-source (particularly
Ubuntu) alterntive suggestions are acceptable.
I have resuscitated Socks32 on my old Windows XP system and it seems
to be working, at least for long enough to post this; but I would like
a more comfortable alternative.
As far as "hardness" of material goes, I am of the "may as well be
hung for a sheep as a lamb" mindset. When I read of people finding
themselves in court for sending "pictures of "pubescent girls/boys
posing sexually" and even cartoons being cited in some cases, I can't
help feeling these days even the mildest material - such as Prodigal's
delightful Lee_v02.avi - is being stigmatised as "CP". You're just as
likely to be called to account for that as for "vicky_suckcum".
So I say while we're reasonably obscure and providing we're properly
anonymised, why not pose hard stuff? I'd draw the line at obvious
force or compulsion, pain, or anything downright weird and worrying
like "Jenny (9) and dog" (yes, I've seen it - but wouldn't dare keep
it, or send it; don't ask! :-) ).

I would, BTW, still like those who can spot inadvertent disclosure to
tell me if, despite Tor, I've still "left my ass hanging out". I've
not yet posted anything or disclosed anything but past sins.
