According to the shooting script (in _Serenity: The Official Visual
Companion_), there are female reavers. When the settlement gets
attacked and as our crew leaves on the mule, one scene (that did not
make it into the theatrical release) had a dude coming out of a house
with a shotgun and getting immediately tackled by a female reaver with
impossible speed.
So, reaverdom appears to be an equal opportunity affliction. Don't
know that I would be referreing to female reavers as "ladies" though,
but that may just be old fashioned of me.
Cheers,
