How come there are only FOUR NORMAL High speed computers in CE 101
Computer science lab ??
GREG
Last semester there were NINE COMPUTERS In CE 101. And one year ago
there were 18 computers in CE 101 on the outer two rows of tables.
CHRIS
On Monday September 10th,2001 there were 36 computers
in CE 101. Are you sure that there are only four now????
CAROUSO
Absolutley. There is a broken computer that never worked
and a slow computer and some non-standard computers but there
are only four remaining normal high speed computers in CE 101
on Tuesday, February 22, 2011
GREG
This is extremely unfair!!
All those students who do not have their own computer
or who have a non-normal MAC or who use a 80486 to
connect to dialup Internet are going to be waiting in
long lines at the end of the semester for those four remaining
computers in CE 101.
CHRIS
CE 101 computer science lab is one of the most important
reasons that the State of California funds Glenoak
Community College.
GREG
We had this same conversation only FIVE DAYS AGO. We should
give Glenoak Community College some time to order
new IBM PC clone computers for CE 101 computer science lab.
CHRIS
But not too much time. We need at least 12 normal computers
instead of four before the middle of this Spring 2011
semester!!
GREG
Microsoft might not be the only source of problems for students.
Is there any smaller company that is causing problems for students??
CHRIS
There is a tragedy in which students enroll in online only
networking courses and then rent a horrible training CD
and many students complain about NON-WORKING HORRIBLE
TRAINING CDs that have simulations of networks that do not
work and the simulation does not work as it should.
Even when a student does everything exactly right
some of those simulations DO NOT WORK!!!!

It would have been better if those students would have
BOUGHT a paper textbook for about the same amount of money as
they wasted RENTING a non-working HORRIBLE TRAINING CD!!

The online professors are demanding that students rent
training CDs so they can use them to run simulations
of networks.
GREG
I strongly beleive that free Oracle-Sun VirtualBox can be
used on a host computer that is configured as a server
( Such as the IIS for Windows host) for the purpose of simulating
a virtual network between host and guest. It is worth the
effort that free Virtual Box requires because it can be used
to simulate a network between host and guest. Pretend that
the guest IP address is 10.0.2.15 and the host IP address
is 10.0.2.2 and that the host server has a HTML file
in its default web page subdirectory
( c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ for windows )

What if I am at the guest OS and dial
http://10.0.2.2/index.htm

If you set up The host server correctly you should get
the host VIRTUAL web page!!
Virtual Box does not require renting any training CDs
and on the guest use
ipconfig /all
if Windows and a Linux guest can use
ifconfig
and
ip route
networking commands on the SIMULATED VIRTUAL NETWORK
All WITHOUT renting a OBSOLETE HORRIBLE TRAINING CD!!!!!!!!!!

I hate it when online networking course professors
order students to rent HORRIBLE TRAINING CDs.
Those CDs use a online
rental password that is good for only a limited
period of time so you will not be able to review
material later and those CDs require a continous connection
to the Internet that is not available to every poor student.
Another problem with those HORRIBLE TRAINING CDs is that
they usually do not work at all. Broken simulations
often cause many students to complain and it is a big waste
of time and effort and money to fiddle around with those
horrible training Cds.
Friday, March 4th is the last day to drop classes without
a W Spring 2011 semester. All students who have enrolled
in an online networking course at community college who have
rented an online course horrible training CD who are having
problems with it should DROP THOSE online courses like
hot potatoes before Friday March 4th of 2011.
If you even might want to try again a later semester I hope that
you e-mail the online professor and request a textbook
instead of a training CD next semester. Also say that
Greg, who happens to be a computer expert, has reccomended
Turning the host computer into a server and using free
virtualization ( VirtualBox ) and simulate a virtual
network between host and guest. VirtualBox creates a
simulated network that is far better than the best rented
training CD had even hoped to make.
I am hoping that YOU STUDENTS Out there will help fix
the situation by BOYCOTTING HORRIBLE TRAINING CDs!!
Our school needs to spend money on additional computers
for CE 101 instead of continuing to waste money on
golf carts and online only networking courses that require
rented training CDs. Change those courses to use paper textbooks
with free virtualBox simulated networks so their state
funding will not have to be eliminated!!
