Like "The Brady Bunch", "My Three Sons" had music by (Frank) DeVol but
in the early pre-Technicolor eps. it had music by John Seely
Associates,a service of Capitol Records, aka MuTel, Capitol Production
Musici, and OGM Musc (also Media Music) and Capitol Q (Cue,get it? No
Susie-Q though.:-)).
The much-familiar and much-used music of the composes of "John Seely
Associates" that was of Capitol were Phil Green, Harold Bluestone, Ed
Lund, Emil Cadkin, Jack Shaindlin, Spencer Moore, John Seely, Bill
Loose, Geordie aka George Hormel, Raoul Kraushaar, Mahlon LeGrande
Merrick (also known as "Gene LeGrand" and "Lou Kosloff", composer of
Anne Southern's theme show Susie and Abbot and Costello's show and the
1955 Gillette "Look Sharp-You Feel Shearp-bne Sharp), Clarence Wheeler
(not the fusion guy but Machiavellian cartoon maker Walt Lantz's guy),
David Buttolph, Jack Cookerly, Jack Belasco, Lou DeFrancesco, and
others.
Imagine if Brady had been made in the fifties..Devol's Warner-Carl
Stalling like usage of Paramount-public domain sons (Parm't's own "TIme
for us" and "Moon River": and public domain "William Tell") would be
replaced a la Columbia, Universal, Don Fedderson (maker of My 3 Sons)
and many cartoons etc. by the John Seely Capitol Assocviates production
music, and anytime Marcia-marcia Marcia got kciked outta Romeo 'n
Juliet, in lieu of "A Time for us" you'd hear the sad "wa wa wa WAAA"
(think jay Ward's "Fractured Fairy Tales",Ugly Duckling spoof),most
known maybe from that dogcatching epsiode of Huck Hound,'Nutts over
Mutts"-Hanna-Barbera/Columbia-Screen Gems,which thwen made Dennis the
Menace and Donan Reerd and otehrs that also sued that music..)
Did you know the music in My Three Sons used to be the tune that opened
at H-B Scooby-Doo's superiopir furry predecessor-slueths Snooper and
Blabber (composed by British composer Phillip Green, titled
"Popcorn"--as in trhe Brady era "song" but a different familair tune,
also in Quik Draw, Gumby and others and in America at Capitol was
retitled to "The Comedy Walker".[John Seely Associates, who also
controversially becuase of a music strike scored six Looney Tunes ,
used that for the open of a Foghorn Leghorn Looney Toon--Spencer Moore,
Geo.Hormel and others's music was used as mentiooned.] I thinK Frank
DeVol may have composed for those library tracks in the 50s which may
have led to the producerr of My 3 Sons hiring him for the original
theme and later original musical underscore in the faux Technicolor
Wm.Demarest CBS's with nerdy Barry Livingstone as Ernie. Anyway, in the
fifties I can imagine the Bradys using the same music as Davey and
Goliath and My THree Sons!
