that can poison generations of innocents

Vice President who has to clean his hands after
the great trauma of shaking hands with the
Little People - his potentially disease-ridden
supporters. Sadly, even our elite, robber-baron
power-brokers are still obligated to perform this
unpleasant task of shaking hands with - ugh-
the common people, in order to maintain the
cherished delusions of America.
These are the kinds of things that politicians do-
kissing babies, pandering to bigots,
posing for cameras, smiling perpetually
(ouch, that must hurt), parading their lovely
wives and children, raising obscene sums of money,
hungering for power, smearing opponents...
These are the things that poets do- rambling
weirdly in melodramatic phrases that people
think mean nothing, but they do.
The dewdrops. The dewdrops.
Dear God, the dewdrops!
They are blood on the corn.
That phrase isn't random. It means something.
Do you know what it is?
Don't feel bad if you don't know.
I confess, I didn't either, until a second ago,
when I searched to find why it might be that
the word was flashing so insistently
in my head.

illness," on people lined up to meet
Vice President Dick Cheney this month at
a fund-raiser in Topeka.

too, rubbed his hands vigorously with the stuff,
dispensed in dollops by an aide when the
vice president was out of public view.
Still, politics can be an especially dirty place to exist.
"Every time you're with big groups of people,
you're going to be exposed to rhinoviruses,
adenoviruses and the viruses that cause
gastroenteritis," said Senator Tom Coburn,
an Oklahoma Republican and physician.

She'd had trouble with gravity before--
not like this, when she'd first get up
as morning dew evaporated, stealing drops
from slender stems and delicate petals.
This time, her feet firmly on the ground,
suddenly shaken by weightlessness
she grabbed the chairback, gripped her desk
willing herself to hold fast, endure the motion.
It was still morning when she left earth's hold
finding she was floating above the streets,
but not afraid of the consequence of sky
eager to explore this new sensation, serene.
Falling was out of the question, of course,
she was always well-grounded, luckily
the headwinds were gentle at that moment,
giving her time to look at the city below.
