Sam

You don't mention anything about your success?  I hope you are
successful.

You may be looking at this the wrong way?

The logic in Show Biz [The Music Industry] is that you need a booking
agent when you have something to book ... you need a manager when
there is something to manage.

You say to want 'more work' that would indicate that you are not
convincing the public that there is 'something to book'?  May be wrong
but I feel that is correct.

The logic is that if you play a gig and you have 'something to
book' .. in other words, you kill the audience, standing ovation,
merchandising out of control, dozens wanting to get on your Email list
etc. then there will be at least three guys in the audience that will
approach you to book you ... of course, the venue owner/booker that
you are playing in will book you for one, maybe two or three more
nights?  [Christmas, New Year, club anniversary].

So, logically, a 'going place' act does not need a booking agent ....
only when the volume of work is so high an agent is needed to
coordinate the bookings, increase the quality of venues and/or
negotiate increasingly better fees.

It is precisely the same with management .... I get many, many guys
get in touch with me asking about getting a manager...

The logic is that when you have something that the public want, a
'proper' manager/managers will find you .... because they feel you are
going to make their next $fortune.  Any 'dick' will manage any
act .... but don't expect that that manager will get any action for
the act ... they won't.  It is the act that gets the action, not the
manager.

So, I would suggest that you examine your act, in light of what I have
said above.  Really examine it and ask yourself could a booking agent
really help?  Even if you could convince a proper booking agent to get
involved.

It is the quality and sellability of the act that gets the
bookings ... not the booking agent.

Of course I could be totally wrong ... but I never am [grin!] .... I
don't know everything ... I just know the important stuff ....
[another grin!]
